I have a black dog at home, and I named it “Xiao Hei” (Little Black). Its fur is completely black and shiny, and it feels very soft to the touch. Only on its belly is there a small patch of short white fur, which is about the same color as the skin on my dad’s arm; this makes it really stand out.

Xiao Hei is quite tall, and when it stands next to me, it’s almost at my waist. Its ears are pointy and always perched on its head, like two little radars. Its tail is even more energetic; it’s always held high, swaying back and forth as it walks, which looks really happy.
Xiao Hei has a bit of a “contradictory” personality; sometimes it’s shy, but at other times it’s extremely brave. Every time I play badminton at home, as soon as the ball flies up, it gets scared and runs away with the little cat named Xiao Mi, hiding in a corner without daring to get close. If Xiao Mi climbs a tree to watch the excitement, Xiao Hei tries to follow and uses its paws to climb the trunk, but it can’t manage to do so and just circles around the tree, looking very anxious. However, when I take it out for play and we meet someone it doesn’t know, it will stand in front of me and bark loudly at them until they walk away. At that moment, it looks really brave.
Every morning after breakfast, Xiao Hei goes for a walk by itself from the main gate of our house, like a little adult with its own plans. Once I wanted to sneak behind it to see where it went. It seemed to walk slowly, but as I followed, I quickly lost track of it; even when I ran, I couldn’t catch up. In the end, I was so tired that I had to squat down and catch my breath, while Xiao Hei wasn’t even out of breath and still looked back at me from ahead. Just as I took a short rest, I accidentally stepped on some grass by the road, and with a “crack,” Xiao Hei immediately turned its head, noticed me, wagged its tail, and ran over to rub against my hand, as if to say, “So you were following me!”
When it’s time to eat, Xiao Mi always tries to steal its dog food. Once, when Xiao Mi tried to snatch the food again, Xiao Hei buried its head in its bowl to protect it and refused to share. Unexpectedly, Xiao Mi jumped up and slapped Xiao Hei on the head with its paw. Scared, Xiao Hei quickly hid beside my legs and started whining, rubbing its head against my hand as if to complain, “Master, Xiao Mi is bullying me! Look, my head was hit!” I stroked its head to comfort it, and then it finally stopped whining.
Although Xiao Hei can be a bit shy at times, it always makes me feel happy when it’s with me. I really love it.
