The Bread’s Journey

The Bread’s Journey

In the bakery’s window, there were several pieces of freshly baked bread. That day, an old woman outside the store said to the owner, “This morning, I saw a beggar who was almost fainting from hunger. Fortunately, I gave him one of your breads, and he recovered!”
The Bread's Journey
One of the breads in the window felt a tickling sensation inside and nudged its neighbor, saying, “I want to go out and help those poor people too!” Another piece of bread pouted, “No way—I don’t want to; it’s so dirty outside.” Just as they were talking, the cashier came over to open the window for some fresh air, and suddenly that piece of bread flew out, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
It flew on, and soon it spotted a beggar squatting by the road. The beggar was both hungry and tired; he grabbed the bread and started eating it greedily, afraid it would be gone in the next second. But after finishing the bread, it miraculously returned to its original size! Both the bread and the beggar were surprised. The beggar continued eating until he was full and let out a big burp. Then the bread shrank back into a small piece and said, “Keep this for tomorrow; remember!” The beggar nodded and carefully stored the small piece of bread.
The bread flew on again and saw a stray dog with an injured leg and a dirty coat. Its big, watery eyes looked pitiful as it watched the people passing by. The bread gently landed, and the dog immediately jumped up and started chewing on it. “Be gentle with your teeth!” the bread warned. The dog was startled but still finished eating it quickly. The bread left behind a little bit for the dog, saying, “You’ll need to find your own food tomorrow.” The dog barked twice, as if in agreement.
In this way, the bread helped one person after another. By the time it had helped the hundredth person, it gradually turned transparent and disappeared. Then an old man with a white beard came by and drew a white circle with a dust brush. The bread flew into the circle and transformed into a beautiful fairy.
