In the dense forest, there lived Mother Rabbit and her little bunny. The little bunny was particularly lazy; it spent all day either eating or sleeping, and refused to do any work at all. One day, Mother Rabbit looked at the empty basket and sighed, “We have no food left at home. Go pick some mushrooms and bring them back, please! Stop being so lazy!” Reluctantly, the little bunny picked up the basket and slowly headed out.

When it reached the woods, it saw a bush of brightly colored mushrooms that were really pretty and shiny. Suddenly, it remembered what its mother had said: mushrooms with too bright colors could be poisonous. But then it thought to itself, “Could mom have been wrong? These mushrooms look so nice; maybe they’re safe to eat!” It picked one, took a bite, and after just a few chews, it felt dizzy and collapsed to the ground.
When the little bunny woke up, it found itself in a small hut. A farmer walked in with a knife and said to a child beside him, “We’ll have some rabbit meat to eat tonight!” The little bunny was so scared that it shivered all over. It then remembered that it had eaten poisonous mushrooms and quickly cried out, “Don’t eat me! I ate poisonous mushrooms; if you eat them, you’ll get sick too!” The farmer noticed that the little bunny’s mouth was indeed purple and immediately waved his hand, saying, “Then you should leave quickly, so you don’t infect us with the poison.”
The little bunny added, “If we find a doctor to remove the poison, I’ll be fine in a few days.” The farmer thought this made sense and actually called a doctor. The doctor gave the little bunny some medicine and said, “The poison will be completely gone in four days.” But the next evening, the little bunny took advantage of everyone’s inattention and ran home secretly.
When it got home, Mother Rabbit immediately asked where the mushrooms were. The little bunny told her about what had happened. Mother Rabbit stroked its head and said, “You were able to think clearly in a dangerous situation; you’ve really grown up!” The little bunny blushed and replied, “I won’t be lazy anymore, and I won’t eat strange mushrooms without checking first.”
