Dreams are often the images of what we focus on in a short period of time, turning the impossible into possible. Yet, I wish to give my dreams to others.
During the Anti-Japanese War, facing the unyielding spirit of the Chinese people and the brutal persecution by the Japanese army, as well as the selfless sacrifice of the 800 martyrs, I want to share China’s dream for the 21st century with them. It is because of them that we have today’s China—a strong, democratic, and civilized nation. Only by seeing this dream can they understand that their efforts and sacrifices were not in vain; they helped build a great country in the East.
During the New Democratic Revolution, the entire Chinese nation urgently needed a leader. Mr. Sun Yat-sen stepped forward and dedicated his life to the cause of national rejuvenation. I want to give him the dream of the city of Nanjing. Back then, Nanjing was ravaged by gunfire, resembling a hell on earth. But after going through many trials and tribulations, Nanjing now presents its most beautiful face to the world. It has become an economically strong city and a symbol of international peace, free from the sounds of war and chaos, replaced by a life of happiness and prosperity for its people. Mr. Sun, your vision has come true.
After the establishment of the socialist system, reform and opening up became key measures for national development. The country expanded its openness from the coast to the inland, forming a comprehensive, multi-tiered, and wide-ranging approach to international relations. Comrade Deng Xiaoping was a central figure in this process; without him, there would be no modern China with its highly developed economy today. He boldly broke free from the constraints of “leftist” ideologies, promoted the establishment of a socialist market economy, and facilitated the return of Hong Kong and Macau to Chinese sovereignty. I want to dedicate the dream of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to him. Today, the GDP of the Greater Bay Area ranks first in the country, with Shenzhen becoming an international metropolis. With the return of Hong Kong and Macau, the region has maintained stable governance and, under the principle of “one country, two systems,” successfully navigated several global economic crises, becoming the world’s second-largest economy. Pudong New Area is a testament to China’s progress.
Finally, I want to give the dream of the new era to myself. As young people in this new era, we should learn from the perseverance and pioneering spirit of those who fought in the war, Mr. Sun Yat-sen, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping. We should contribute to the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and help make China’s dream a reality.
Dreams can be illusory or real, but the choice lies with us. If we choose to give our dreams away, we must make them come true and show the world the true strength of China. What does it mean to give away a dream? It means using dreams as a guide to live up to our youth, and using history as a mirror to create a better future.
