The Library in 20 Years

The Library in 20 Years

Today, mom took me to the library. The lobby here is spacious and bright, but there aren’t many people around. It’s divided into several sections, which really confused me. There are so many books in the library that my sister tried to find a book for ten minutes but couldn’t find it; it’s just too messy! On the way back, I kept thinking: This library is so chaotic. People just put the books back wherever they finish reading them, which means the next person has to search through all the books one by one. What will libraries be like in the future? Will they be better?
The Library in 20 Years
When we got home, I took a shower and then went back to my room to sleep. My eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and before I knew it, I fell asleep…
When I woke up, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar environment where everything had a futuristic, tech-driven vibe to it. Suddenly, I saw a car losing control and rushing towards some people on the street. A miraculous thing happened: the front of the car sank in like soft mud, but after a while, it returned to its original shape as if nothing had happened.
As I wandered around, I came across a library. Driven by curiosity, I went inside. I was amazed: the interior of the library was spacious, but from the outside, it only looked like a small area. A large, tech-filled screen was hanging on the wall, and most of the people there were robots, with only about one-third being humans. Each robot had a specific task; some were cleaning, some were organizing the books, and others were guiding people to the book sections.
Just as I was lost in thought, an intelligent robot approached me and asked, “What book would you like to read?” I said, “I want to read ‘The Secrets of Pan’s Palace.’” My dad bought me this set of eighteen books, and I haven’t finished reading them all yet. The robot then said, “Please follow me.” I followed it, wondering to myself: Has the future really developed to such a degree? The robot stopped in front of a bookshelf, scanned it with its eyes, and picked out the book I wanted from the top of the shelf. I was stunned: It only took less than a minute! That’s so much faster than how things work in our current libraries!
I took the book down and noticed that they weren’t printed; they felt like metal to the touch. Accidentally pressing on something made the content of the book appear right in front of my eyes—it turned out these books could project their contents!
My foot slipped, and I instantly returned to reality. It turns out all of this was just a dream! Will libraries really be like this in the future? I can’t wait to find out!
