My “terrifying” teacher

My science teacher, Mr. Luo, is definitely the “big boss” that everyone in our class acknowledges. If you were to walk by our classroom during a lesson, you would be amazed: it’s so quiet that you could hear a needle drop! Hehe, that’s because Mr. Luo has three “magic weapons” – superhuman hearing, excellent chalk skills, and a lion’s roar. With these three tools, how could any student who doesn’t pay attention escape his notice?

I remember once during a science class, Mr. Luo was writing the key points on the blackboard with his back to us. Seeing that he wasn’t looking in our direction, I quietly leaned over and started talking to my deskmate, Xiao Wang, about the game we played the previous day. But as soon as I said a few words, I heard a “whoosh,” and a small white piece of chalk, as if it had eyes of its own, landed right on my textbook! I was startled, and before I could react, I heard Mr. Luo call out loudly, “Wang Haochen! What were you just saying? Stand up and repeat it for the whole class to hear!”
My face turned red immediately, and my heart started pounding like a drum. I stammered and couldn’t speak. Mr. Luo turned around and said to me, “Were you discussing what game to play during recess?” I was so surprised that my mouth fell open; how could he know all that when he was facing the other way? Could it be that he really had developed superhuman hearing?
Another time, Mr. Luo was explaining the principles of batteries. His sharp eyes swept across the whole class like searchlights, and then they stopped on Zhang Xiaoming. It turned out that Xiaoming was secretly hiding a comic book under his textbook and was so engrossed in it that he didn’t notice. “Zhang Xiaoming, could you please explain how to tell the positive and negative poles of a battery?”
Hearing Mr. Luo’s question, Xiaoming stood up nervously, lowered his head, and couldn’t answer at all. Mr. Luo’s expression turned serious, and his voice raised by an octave, “Do you think science class isn’t important? Can you learn anything by reading irrelevant books during class?”
Xiaoming lowered his head and admitted his mistake, blushing. At that moment, the whole class fell dead silent; everyone sat up straight as if they were frozen in place.
Although we call Mr. Luo “the big boss” in private, we all understand that behind his strict demands lies his deep love for us. It’s because he wants each of us to learn well and develop good habits that he is so meticulous. Just like our parents always say, a strict teacher produces excellent students!
