In today’s art class, the teacher said she would teach us how to make clay crafts. I sat down in my seat, and my hands couldn’t help but start rubbing together—both excited and thrilled.
First, the teacher laid out the materials on the podium: colorful clays, small pieces of plaster, magnets, as well as several boxes of markers and black-and-white crayons. I quickly ran up to choose my materials and picked four colors of clay: black, pink, white, and red, along with matching markers. I also grabbed a piece of plaster, a magnet, and two crayons. I was going to make a character named “Demon Rabbbu”!
As soon as I held the black clay in my hands, it stuck to my finger. I had to rub it on the palm of my hand several times to shape it into a ball and then slowly form a pair of rabbit ears. Next, I rolled out a thin strip of white clay and wrapped it around the ears, and then used the black crayon to draw two little crosses underneath, which made the ears look really cool.
I also shaped two small stars, one pink and one red, and created a butterfly and a rose with “bloodstains” by just smearing some white paint on the red clay. Finally, I made a red heart and set it aside for later use.
It was time to work with the plaster. First, I used the white crayon to outline a big mouth and filled it in with about a dozen “teeth”. Then I drew dark eyes and a brown nose, and added some blushes. When assembling the character, I glued the ears on both sides of the plaster face, stuck the stars by the ears, placed the butterfly below, and set the rose on top, and finally glued the red heart right in the middle.
The teacher came over and saw my work. She smiled and praised me, saying, “That’s really exquisite!” I felt as sweet as if I had eaten honey, and I kept staring at my creation. This lesson taught me that as long as you put your heart into something, the effort you invest will always pay off.
