My “comics” teacher is Mr. Gui from the extracurricular English class.
Mr. Gui is very easy to recognize: his hair is sparse on both sides, with a smooth patch in the middle, making him look like a polished ball. We jokingly call him “The Mediterranean Teacher.” He always wears black-rimmed glasses and has a smile on his face, but in the blink of an eye, he can turn into a “battle face,” switching from being humorous to strict in just one second.
He has a secret—he loves to hide meat buns in his bag. Sometimes before class, he will stand by the window, pretending to be a “poet” looking at the scenery with his hands behind his back. In reality, he secretly takes out a bun and stuffed it into his mouth, his cheeks puffing up like little balls. If we catch him doing this, he would laugh sheepishly.
Mr. Gui’s classes are half laughter and half tension. When teaching direction words, he has us stand up and follow his commands to perform certain actions. Sometimes he deliberately speaks the commands very quickly, causing us to make mistakes in a hurry, and then he just stands by the podium, laughing non-stop. However, if anyone talks or plays with something during class, he immediately transforms into a “sharpshooter.” He will throw a whiteboard pen, almost always hitting the person’s desk (sometimes even brushing past their head), and then the person has to pick it up and return it to him, while Mr. Gui says sternly, “You need to concentrate in class!”
During dictation, it’s even more interesting. If we sit hunched over, he comes over and gives us a “clap on the back of the head” as a reminder. Sometimes he even reads the words with a bun still in his mouth, his slurred speech making us laugh uncontrollably. Occasionally, he might pause suddenly and ask a classmate, “What was the next word again?” But if anyone tries to cheat, he turns very serious and gives them a zero score without any mercy.
This is my Mr. Gui—sometimes he’s so funny that we laugh until we cry, and other times he’s so strict that we dare not get distracted. But precisely because of this, his classes are never boring, and I look forward to each one of them.
