My beloved thing is not the beautiful osmanthus flower, nor the lovely pearl-billed bird, but a lively and adorable little goldfish named Boniu. It was a gift from my mother on my birthday, and since then, it has become the warmest companion in my life.

Boniu is plump and its whole body shines with a golden glow. Its scales are golden, just like the crown on a queen’s head, sparkling brightly. Its eyes are big and black, like two little balls. Its tail is like a big fan; it flaps as it swims, looking absolutely beautiful. It loves to spin around in front of me, as if dancing, always making me laugh. That’s why I gave it the name Boniu.
Boniu is also a bit of a foodie. Whenever it hears the sound of me opening the fish food canister, it can’t wait to jump out of the water and open its little mouth, waiting for me to feed it. But when I put the fish food back in, it looks at me with such longing in its eyes, as if to say, “Little master, are you going to starve me to death?”
From that day on, Boniu and I became inseparable friends. During the day, I play with it; in the afternoon, we bask in the sun in the yard and eat some snacks together. At night, I put it on my bedside table, and we fall asleep together.
I remember once I only got 78 points on my math test. When I got home, I lay on the bed and cried. At that moment, Boniu kept swimming around in its fishbowl, as if to say, “Little master, this is just one bad test; you don’t always do poorly. As long as you work hard, you will do well next time!” Seeing its adorable expression, I felt much more relieved.
The little goldfish Boniu is not only a bright spot in my life but also a source of comfort for my soul. It teaches me with its simple presence that failure is not scary; as long as you try your best, there is hope. Do you have such a “little friend” in your life too?
